My guinea pig

So my niece came to visit us yesterday, and what could I do but to offer her to join up in a game of newsies? :)

She’s 9 going to 10 and I wanted to see how she went through the process of creating a player character. She chose to be a newsgirl but interesting enough created a character quite unlike her. Instead of the “intellectual” student she is, she chose a range of skills that would make her character excell at athletics and, like she said “running away from trouble”.

I found she had some trouble understanding some of the Attribute names, so I could be changing them. Strength and Education was easy, but she had trouble with Perception. So, I’m not yet, sure, but perhaps Eyes & Ears.

Now, I know that Eyes and Ears is not the same than perception, but it’s close enough, traightfoward and easy to remember. Constitution, for the same reasons, could be changed to Health.

I thanked her for her help and she replied: “So I was a test subject?” :)

Newsies a Roleplaying Game

So here we go, this is the first post of Newsies, a roleplaying game of low fantasy and high adventure in the fictional city of New Paris in the good old USA. They would not only have to sell papers and dodge poverty; no the whole have to save the city and the world from nefarious plots, solve mysteries, rescue the inocent and even face monsters.

And no, no special powers, nor magic, nor great tech. That’s for wannabe heroes who aren’t up for a challenge. Are you?

I’m afraid you aren’t going to find much of the rules on this blog, because I have just drafted them and have written but one thousand words of the main rulebook.

So far this is what I’ve done:

I’ll keep you updated as I go.
